The Department of Justice has once again released an allegedly "fair and impartial" report: Statement by President of the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police: 9,300 member

Strangely, as one reads their 126 pages of "fair and impartial" reporting regarding the Phoenix Police Department, you find not a single example of PPD officers performing heroically, being injured or ambushed in the line of duty, saving lives, or being empathetic to the community they have committed to serve. Instead, the DOJ has microscopically focused on a handful of situations handpicked from literally thousands of police contacts on a daily basis in the fifth largest city in the United States.

Phoenix Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 2: Disappointment in U.S. Department of Justice

The Phoenix Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 2 could not be more disappointed in the U.S. Department of Justice and its so-called “pattern and practice investigation” into the Phoenix Police Department. The investigative summary released by the DOJ today is full of half-truths, unsubstantiated accusations, and haphazard, illogical conclusions. Despite this investigation taking years and costing millions of dollars, the PPD and the City of Phoenix have cooperated to a greater extent than any City. The DOJ’s preordained conclusion looks exactly like the paper-thin “investigations” we have seen in more than 20 cities across the U.S. over the past 16 years. The officers of the Phoenix Police Department – and the taxpayers of this great City – deserve better!

President Yoes - the “‘Targeting Online Sales of Fentanyl Act”

I am writing on behalf of the members of the Fraternal Order of Police to advise you of our support for S.2982, the “‘Targeting Online Sales of Fentanyl Act.” In 2022, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) identified that drug traffickers were increasingly relying on online platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram to circulate deadly counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl. Individuals who purchase these pills, which are primarily advertised to young people as routine over-the-counter prescription drugs, are not aware that these pills are often laced with deadly doses of fentanyl. Despite the significant risk posed by these online sales, Federal agencies lack reliable data to follow these transactions and gain an accurate perspective on the effectiveness of potential countermeasures.

The Phoenix Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 2 has represented police officers in the City of Phoenix for 85 years. Never before has public safety in our City faced such an existential moment. Should the Phoenix City Council vote “yes” to a consent decree that effectively hands over control of the Phoenix Police Department to the U.S. Department of Justice, that single political decision will have extremely dangerous consequences for every Phoenix resident, every police officer, every worker and every visitor to our city.
