The Fraternal Order of Police Phoenix Lodge 2 congratulates Matt Giordano on his appointment as the next Chief of Police for the City of Phoenix.

Chief Giordano brings more than three decades of dedicated service to law enforcement, including significant leadership roles at both local and state levels. Since 2018, he has led the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, overseeing vital efforts to enhance training, professionalism, and accountability across Arizona’s law enforcement community. Before that, he served as executive chief of enforcement with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, following a long and respected career with the Phoenix Police Department, where he rose to the rank of commander after more than twenty years of service.

Many of our members know Chief Giordano personally and had the opportunity to work alongside him during his years with the Phoenix Police Department. He is widely regarded as a “street cop’s cop,” respected for his tremendous work ethic, impeccable leadership skills, and deep commitment to both his fellow officers and our community. His understanding of the realities of policing on the street, coupled with his experience in executive leadership, provides a strong foundation for guiding the department forward.

Chief Giordano’s return comes at a pivotal time for the Phoenix Police Department. The members of Lodge 2 look forward to working with him to ensure the safety of our city, support the dedicated men and women who serve, and strengthen the bonds of trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the community.

We also express our appreciation to Acting Police Chief Dennis Orender for his steady leadership and continued service during this period of transition.
